What this is
A reference site about setting up smart home devices, organized by situation rather than by topic.
Most instructions assume the simplest case — new device, working network, one owner, nothing complicated. But people arrive at this in all sorts of states. The router was replaced last week. The device was a gift and still shows somebody else's account. You are doing this for a parent in another city and will not be in the room when it matters.
Every page here opens with the situations it covers, so you can find yours and skip the rest. Some of it is about moving house or renting, which apply whoever made your equipment. The speaker material covers Alexa and Echo setup, because that is where a lot of people's first question comes from.
Around the house
Situations that come up whoever made your equipment, and wherever you are in a tenancy.
| If this is you | Read |
|---|---|
| Packing up, or arriving somewhere the network is different | Moving house with smart devices |
| Renting, and wondering what you may install | Renting and smart devices |
Smart speakers
Setting one up, and connecting it to a home network.
| If this is you | Read |
|---|---|
| Setting up a device, in any of six common circumstances | An independent guide to Alexa setup |
| Two network names, a mesh system, an extender, or hotel Wi-Fi | Connecting to Wi-Fi |
Also on the speaker side: which app and which account, unboxing, power and placement, what the light ring means, and adding a second device.
How we write
Situations, not topics. Each page lists its situations up front, so you can tell within seconds whether it is the right page.
Length that matches the subject. Some situations need three paragraphs, some need one. We do not pad the short ones.
Plain vocabulary. Where a technical term is unavoidable, it is explained where it first appears rather than assumed.
Honest about limits. Where something depends on a model we cannot see, or a country-specific feature, we say so rather than guessing on your behalf.
What we do not do
We are a publisher, and only that:
- No telephone support — there is no number on this site because there is no support line
- No live chat with a person and no human advisers — the on-page assistant is automated and returns links to pages here only
- No remote access to anything you own
- No diagnostics, troubleshooting or fault-finding
- No setup, installation or configuration performed for you
- No repairs or servicing
- No account recovery or password resets
- No requests for credentials, passwords, codes or payment details — ever
If something is genuinely wrong with a device, the manufacturer or the retailer who sold it is the only party who can see it and act. We would rather say that on the front page than let you find out three pages in.
Independence
ElevaHome Hub is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Amazon.com, Inc., its subsidiaries, or any other device manufacturer, retailer or platform operator. We are not a reseller, agent or authorized service provider for anyone.
Trademarks mentioned here belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the products discussed.
No manufacturer pays us, reviews our pages, or influences them. That is exactly why a page here can say a device will not work on hotel Wi-Fi, that a cheap adapter causes problems people mistake for network faults, or that a second-hand device may still belong to somebody else.
How we check things
We work from manufacturer specifications and documentation, mobile platform developer documentation, and published wireless standards. Forums tell us what people are confused about; they do not establish facts. Where our pages and a manufacturer's current documentation disagree, theirs is right and ours needs fixing.
Our sourcing rules, review schedule, correction process and the list of things we refuse to publish are set out in the Editorial Policy.
Who runs this
ElevaHome Hub is published by Priyadarshini Behera, an independent publisher based in India. Full details are on the About page, and correspondence on editorial, legal and privacy matters is welcome via Contact.
Requests for technical help are filtered and receive no reply, for the reasons above.
